Port Macquarie, Australia
Port Macquarie is a lot bigger than we imagined. We thought it would be a cute little town but in reality it was very commercial and industrial! When the sun is shining it is a very beautiful place. We were only in Port Macquarie for a day but we had a really great time and feel it was just enough time for us.
We didn’t stay in any hostels while we were there but there are three to choose from, so you can look at the options!
Hostels are an amazing way to meet new people and gain new experiences that you would never get by just travelling alone.
What to do in Port Macquarie
If you like walking then you should check out the Forest walking track in Crowdy Bay National Park. It is a beautiful walk though lush rainforest where you can see the ocean glistening in the distance and only 3km return.
Perpendicular Point is another beautiful place; it is a lookout over cliffs with a drop of over 40 meters to the ocean below! This is the best point to spot whales out in the distance if you’re there at the right time of year (June – December)
Have a wander around the city, there are so many nice restaurants and cafes to choose from all offering a wide array of different foods. Make time to watch the sunset as there are some really wonderful colours in the sky in Australian sunsets! We watched the sunset at Town Beach park which is a great stop if you’re camping as it has a toilet block to wash your dishes. Once the sun has set you can go for a stroll down to the skatepark and watch the skaters under flood lights. Port Macquarie has a really lovely feel to it at night and makes for a really relaxing atmosphere.
