Candidasa is like the town that time forgot! There are not very many tourists here, so you will get hassled, a lot! We actually really enjoyed our time here, although we only stayed for two days. If you’re planning on travelling around Bali and heading up to Amed/Lovina then Candidasa is a great place to break up the long drive.
We stayed at Relax Beach Resort and absolutely loved it! If you’re staying in Candidasa be sure to stay somewhere close to the beach. If you’re lucky you might even get an ocean view from your room! There are a few really nice restaurants in the area who play live music at night, as well as a few street food vendors if you’re feeling experimental!
One of the most popular tours in Candidasa is the Dolphin tours! We opted against going on them as we decided they aren’t very ethical, but many other tourists do go on them and have a great time. The boats speed along at the same pace as the dolphins meaning you can get up close and personal with them as they swim along side.
We mostly spent our time in Candidasa eating too much, exploring the streets and visiting the local shops. But there is much more to do here than meets the eye. Other things that you can do in include:
- Visiting the Goa Lawah Temple. A temple which was built around a cave filled with bats.
- Candidasa Lotus Lagoon – A lagoon filled with lotus flowers and lots of beautiful statues.
- Pasir Putih beach – A white sand beach close by (a lot of beaches in Candidasa are rocky beaches)
We would probably recommend about 2-3 days here. You can probably do everything that there is to do there and spend some time soaking up the sun, any longer than that might be a little boring/monotonous. However it’s a great place to see and as we said, it’s a great stop over when travelling further east.
Next up, Amed.
